Near-miss Definition

Any incident where no injury and ill health occurs but has the potential to do so.

Examples of a near miss include:

  • Electrical short circuit or overload causing fire or explosion
  • Collapse or partial collapse of any structure
  • A motor vehicle incident resulting in damage to the vehicle
  • Human aggression
  • Collapse of any building or structure
